
They kissed for the first time during the protest, finding each other between the shouts and tear gas and rubber bullets.
When Sadie told the story, years later, to their children, she told them about righteousness, and the power of love. Her wife squeezed her hand and said nothing.
As their children grew older, they asked for both sides of the story. Dinah would sigh, and look far away, and smile slightly before giving a different answer.
“She looked like she was panicking. I thought she would break.” She explained that love is many things, and sometimes it is solidarity.
