One day a dog wandered into the seer’s sanctum and began to speak.
“Seer, I was once my queen’s greatest bodyguard. Everyday she asked me a question, and I had no answer. In the years since, I’ve searched far and wide for the answer. You are my last hope.”
“Look in my magic mirror, and find what you seek.”
The dog did as he was bid, but soon became angry. “There’s nothing here!”
“What was your mistress’s question?”
The dog stared in the mirror for a long time. “It was me,” he whispered. “I was the good boy all along.”

They built the tower to reach heaven. Year by year, the pillar grew, and the civilizations that grew around it prospered. Eventually, it was completed, and an assembly of kings, scholars and priests gathered to climb the tower and meet with God.
They met an angel outside of the gates to Heaven.
“Do you have an appointment?”
The crowd murmured to one another, unsure of how to respond. The murmurs became arguments, which became shouts, which finally turned to violence. They surged back down the tower and the gathered nations prepared for war. The angel turned back to their magazine.

“The Cathedral of Pain is the most twisted and unholy building ever designed. Its corners never seem to meet. Its floors seem to slope slightly downwards, no mater which direction you are walking. Its ceilings loom like the oppressive stare of an angry god!” I grinned as an unfortunate soul looked over my blueprints.
“This is the ultimate in unfriendly architecture! Even the materials were selected for maximum discomfort. They’ll shrivel over time, transforming the site into a disturbing husk while maintaining structural integrity!”
My architecture professor sighed. “The assignment was to design a Children’s Hospital. See me after class.”

The peace conference was held in Jotunheim.
Eager to impress, the Frost Giants set up the table in their most picturesque snow-covered forest. They filled it with ice crystal chandeliers and a thousand candles. Then the guests arrived.
The Elves complained that the site was too cold. The Humans that it was too cramped, and the Dwarves that it was too bright.
This is historically known as the beginning of the Great Alliance. History also records the deaths of the lead ambassadors, and the newborn alliance’s war against the Giants.
In Jotunheim, it’s called “The Meeting of the Whiners.”

“You buried him with the keys?” Susan asked, stunned.
“It was his dying wish,” Frank said. “He started the store, and it seemed right to bury him with the keys in his pocket.” She just stared at him, her tear-stained face hardened into something cold rage. After a moment, she excused herself and stomped out of the room.
“You have the spares, right?” Naomi asked. Frank grinned sheepishly at her. “Jesus Christ, Frank.”
Susan returned, a phone in one hand and a shovel in the other.
“We’re reopening on Monday. You can either call a locksmith, or get digging.

The conclave of the realm’s greatest heroes was well into their cups when they began to argue of who was the strongest. After many boasts and claims, Jeroboam the Holy Wizard claimed he could summon angels.
He was pressed to prove it, and one slurring conjuration later, a tall, winged being hovered before them, dripping and nude.
“This’d better be good, Jerry,” She said. “I was in the bath.” It might’ve ended there, had someone in the back not whistled. The ensuing smiting broke up the party, and the group reluctantly admitted that maybe they weren’t so great after all.

A week of unexpected snowfall had paralyzed the city. The protector loaded his mobile fortress for the long night ahead of him and checked his supplies one more time: shovels, flares, thermoses of cocoa, coffee, and soup. He had plenty of blankets, hats, gloves, and coats to distribute. He had everything he needed.
Nobody robbed a bank in a blizzard. Except for Weather Girl, of course. But this was the time of year he felt the most useful. Stopping robberies and chasing super-villains was all status quo work. During the winter, he actually felt like he made a difference.

The Elemental Creators all stared in horror as the Fire God’s javelin slammed into the Sea Goddess’s chest in a pillar of flame. Silence rang throughout the slowly forming plane. She slowly pulled the projectile out and examined it dispassionately as the flame guttered.
The other gods all looked on, ready to intervene if he attacked her again.
“Can we all get back to work, please?” The goddess asked in a voice like the tides.
Once they all resumed their work creating the fledgling world, the formless Wind Deity whispered in her ear. “Aren’t you mad though?”
“Steaming,” She replied.

“What’s the catch?” The highwayman asked, suspiciously eyeing the fine horse presented to him.
“The trail is simple,” The judge replied. “Just ride through these woods, and you are free to go.”
“What’s in there, then?” He looked out at the dark forrest. It must’ve been a trap, but all the villagers were here, he thought.
“Only the ghosts you take with you, sir.”
The highwayman mounted up, thinking only of how much gold he could get for such a horse and thanking God for superstitious backwaters.
The next day, the horse was found wandering the other side. Riderless, naturally.
