The Stone Giants charged the mystical barrier in a scramble, the volcano behind them spewing ash and lava like a second wave following the berserk titans.
The mages held their ground, and the barrier stood to the last. Trapped, the last remaining giant ground his fists to powder against the ward, even as his body was reclaimed by the primordial fire that birthed him.
History would remember the mages as heroes. It wouldn’t record the letters their emperor received in the weeks before the battle. Written by the Stone Giant elders, they begged his assistance against their mountain’s inevitable eruption.
