Everyday Drabbles #1075: Rue

While traveling in Paris, I saw a street marked ‘Rue’ with no name after it. Curious, I took a flight of steps down to the base of the street and followed it to see where it went.
The road was narrow and twisty, with bad drainage that soaked through my shoes. The shops were all shuttered, and there was a rank smell in the air.
The street ended in a dead end where I tripped and hurt my ankle. When I hobbled back to the square my tourbus had already left.
To this day, I still regret exploring that street.

Everyday Drabbles #1059: Bayou Town

Everyone knew about the creature living in the Bayou. But even the smallest town can only keep a secret for so long, so when the Sheriff finally made his way down to investigate, nobody was surprised.
They only ever saw him when a tourist went missing or a corpse was pulled out of the brackish water. He’d poke around, and a few reporters would trail after him. The coroner would make rule it a gator attack and everyone would go home.
You looked out for each other in a small town, even the local monster. It was a swamp thing.
