The City 088: Oberon

Oberon sat on a rooftop and watched the chaos spreading out on the ground below.  Oberon liked the rooftops, surveying The City as traffic passed this way and that, cataloging the cars and the data signatures as they sped through the network.  He didn’t know why he liked it.  His simple AI mind was that of a cat watching traffic and chasing bugs.  But the data all fed back someplace that even he didn’t know.  Suddenly, he felt hands wrap around himself and lift him from the ground.  He hissed at the girl.
“What do we have here?” she smiled.

The City: 050: Rosencrantz

Rozencrantz the cat was hunting his digital prey, mostly interesting shadows and blowing leaves, as there were very few mice or insects to catch in The City.  He began to notice the humans acting strangely.  They stood very still, often in the middle of the street, an action he barely understood to mean their attention was elsewhere.  Then, they began to change, to slump or growl, to move in unnatural ways and behave oddly.  Rosencrantz didn’t understand what a ‘zombie’ was, but as panic erupted throughout The City, he slunk back into the shadows.  Shakespeare would know what to do.

The City: 028: MacBeth

MacBeth the Cat sunned himself on an outer wall of Osaka Castle.  He enjoyed the spot because it was always warm and sunny during the day, and there were many small birds and squirrels to chase.  Below him, a crowd of humans, teenagers, he noted, was gathering.  Lazily, he cataloged and recorded their identities and conversation.  He wasn’t listening, but the recording went on automatically.  A pair of additional humans climbed the steps and joined the group.  A female, identified as Nora O’Reilly, location: Donegal, Ireland, reached up a hand to pet him.  He hissed, and bounded into the grass.

The City: 013: Cleopatra

Cleopatra watched the commotion in the train station with interest.  She liked these kinds of gatherings.  All the people, the noise, the chaos.  This was why she was in The City.  Citizens and Daytrippers ignored her, and she preferred it that way.  All the better to watch them in their rushing patterns.  The City was a different beast to her, and she knew all it’s hidden passages.  Maybe that is why only Cleopatra saw the man with the smile frozen on his lips.  Then he turned and quite impossibly, vanished.  The little calico cat did not understand, but only watched.
